Welcome The Samaritans is a non-religious
charity, which provides confidential emotional support to any person who is
lonely, depressed, or suicidal. Services are offered to the communities of Greater Fall River and Greater New Bedford. Samaritans befriend people in crisis and educate the public about suicide awareness and suicide prevention strategies. The Samaritans of Fall River & New Bedford has been certified by the American Association of Suicidology (AAS). The Samaritans of Fall River & New Bedford are also participants in the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK and the 1-800-SUICIDE networks. The Samaritans of Fall River & New Bedford has received certification from CONTACT USA as a certified crisis agency for 5 years. We are proud to add this certification to our site! |

The Samaritans provides a
free and confidential Hot Line staffed by caring, trained
volunteers available seven days a week from 8:00 AM
to 11:00 PM. This service provides unprejudiced and nonjudgmental support to
those who are alone, depressed or in crisis. Anyone can find a caring
empathetic ear at The Samaritans.

Teen Suicide>>> Suicide is now thought to be the second leading cause of death for ages 15 through 19 and rising rapidly. It may even be the first, but we can't say for sure. It's difficult to get an accurate count, because many times suicides are reported as accidents. Suicide and the Elderly>>>
About Suicide Awareness>>> Education is an important and effective suicide prevention tool. Through our outreach program, The Samaritans provides education, training on identifying those at risk of suicide and suicide prevention strategies. We are available to train schools, professional groups, civic, religious, and social organizations. |
