Teen Suicide>>> Suicide is now thought to be the second leading cause of death for ages 15 through 19 and rising rapidly. It may even be the first, but we can't say for sure. It's difficult to get an accurate count, because many times suicides are reported as accidents.
Suicide and the Elderly>>> Those 65 and older have the highest suicide rate of any age group in the United States. Though persons over 65 make up approximately 13% of the U.S. population, they commit 20% of all reported suicides.
Education is an important and effective suicide prevention tool. Through our outreach program, The Samaritans provides education, training on identifying those at risk of suicide and suicide prevention strategies. We are available to train schools, professional groups, civic, religious, and social organizations. |
